RMS Commentary: Northern Sumatra Earthquake Mw 8.2

At 08:38 UTC on Wednesday, April 11, a magnitude Mw8.6 earthquake occurred off the west coast of Northern Sumatra. This was followed, 2 hours later, by a magnitude Mw8.2 aftershock. Both earthquakes were felt widely and tsunami watches are in place across the Indian Ocean.
